The Black & Decker CM1836 Cordless Lawn Mower is our #2 choice for the 2012 season. It offers all of the great advantages as the CM1936 with the exception of a removable battery and an inch less of cutting swath – for about $50 bucks less. The CM1836 is a works equally well as a mulching mower as it does bagging or discharging. The only real downside to this model is that the battery is not removable.

Haussmann CLM46NU Cordless Lawn Mower #3

Haussmann CLM46NU Cordless Lawn Mower

Rated: 3 Stars(27 Customer Reviews)

Retailing at just $200, the Haussmann CLM46NU is the most budget-friendly cordless lawn mower for 2010 which is why it gets our #3 pick for this year. The main concern we have with the Haussmann is with the brand itself. It’s very difficult to find much information on them. However, of the customers surveyed, the majority of the reviews have been very positive.

The CLM46NU at a glance:

  • 19 Inch Deck
  • Built-in 24 Volt Rechargeable Battery (non-removable)
  • 2-in-1 (Mulching or Rear-Bagging – your choice)
  • Conveniently folds down for easy storage
  • Convenient battery charge status indicator
  • Backed by Black & Decker’s solid 2 Year Warranty

The Haussmann CLM46NU Cordless Lawn Mower is a good choice for the money but is worth being mindful of the fact that the manufacturer does not have the solid track-record of the bigger brands like the Black and Decker mowers.

Cordless Lawn Mowers Are Easy on the Wallet

When electric cordless lawn mowers first debuted a few years ago they came with the typical high price-tag expected with any “latest-&-greatest” new technology. Luckily for us that is no longer the case and many people are quite surprised to find that they can often get a “top-of-the-line” cordless electric machine for even less than the cost of an equivalent gas-powered model. As more manufacturers enter the cordless lawn mower market, the consumers (you and I) benefit by competitive driven performance and affordable pricing.

But, it’s not just the initial cost savings that make the rechargeable electric lawn mower the most affordable choice. There is also the tremendous savings in operating costs to consider. Just think about it, no more inconvenient and expensive trips to the gas station to fill up clunky gas cans, no more messy oil changes, no more air filter replacements, no more spark plugs, and in fact, no more tune-ups at all!

Other than sharpening the blade ever so often, cordless lawn mowers require virtually no maintenance! Depending on the model and mowing conditions, a single battery charge typically lasts 1 – 1.5 hours for a 24 Volt cordless mower or up to 3 hours for a 36 Volt machine. Once every 5 – 7 years the battery may need to be replaced. Batteries typically run $50 – $90 dollars, which is far less than the cost of fuel consumed by a gas powered mower over that time.

Easy to Operate

Cutting the grass simply doesn’t get any easier than accomplishing it with a cordless lawn mower. Gone are the days of pull-starting your arm out of its socket. No more lengthy extension cords to manage. With an electric cordless mower you simply flip a switch and away she goes. No more messing with a finicky choke, no more clogged fuel filters, and no more lugging around awkward gas cans.

Easy on the Environment

It has been said that operating a gas-powered lawn mower for 1 hour produces as much pollution as driving 250 miles in a modern car. It has also been said that it would take 43 running cars to produce the same amount of pollution as 1 gas powered lawn mower. Regardless of how accurate these statistics are, the fact of the matter is that electric cordless lawn mowers are much easier on the environment than their gas-powered cousins.

Easy on the Neighborhood

Imagine being able to mow the lawn early Saturday morning without having to worry about waking up the rest of the household (or neighborhood!). Cordless electric lawn mowers make about as much noise as a standard washing machine (about 75 decibels) which is a significant reduction in neighborhood noise pollution compared to traditional gas powered lawn mowers that average 95 decibels in noise level.

According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, loud noises, in excess of 85 decibels, contribute to hearing loss.

Not only will the late Saturday morning sleepers thank you for your conscientious choice in a new, neighborhood-friendly cordless lawn mower, but your hearing will too!
